The best time to visit Delphi (and Itea)

Delphi works year-round, but the experience changes a lot between seasons. Here's an honest month-by-month breakdown from people who live in the gulf.

Spring (April – May)

The site is green, wildflowers everywhere, temperatures around 18–24°C. Few tour buses. The sea is still cold (16–18°C) but boat trips are perfect for sightseeing without the heat.

Best for: photography, hiking around Delphi, calm visits.

Early summer (June)

Our favorite month. Warm (25–30°C), the gulf is swimmable (22°C), and the heavy summer crowds haven't arrived yet. Long evenings, perfect for sunset on the water.

Best for: couples, photographers, anyone who wants the full experience without August prices.

Peak summer (July – August)

Hot (30–35°C, sometimes more). The site is best visited at opening or in late afternoon. The sea is at 24–25°C - ideal for swimming. Itea and Galaxidi are lively in the evenings.

Best for: families, swimming-focused trips. Book the boat in advance.

Early autumn (September – mid October)

Probably the best overall window. Sea still warm (23°C), air cooler (22–28°C), light is golden, crowds thinner. The local tavernas relax.

Best for: anyone with flexibility on dates.

Off-season (November – March)

Delphi and the museum are quiet and cheap. Arachova becomes a ski village. Boat trips stop in winter - too windy on the gulf. Visit for the ruins and the mountains, not the sea.
